At the height of being in love the boundary between the ego and the object threatens to melt away. Against all the evidence of his senses, a man who is in love declares that ‘I’ and ‘You’ are one and prepared to act as if it were fact.

Life, as we find it, is too hard for us. It brings us too many pains, disappointments and impossible tasks. In order to bear it, we cannot help but resort to palliative measures. There are 3 such measures: powerful deflections which cause us to make light of our misery; substitutive satisfactions which diminishes it; and intoxicating substances which makes us insensitive to it.

I’d also like to see someone respond to this picture wearing a burka. Seriously, confident girls come in all different kinds.

1) If the first person is male-identifying, he is a sexist, and otherwise a hypocrite at the least, because he is “showing off” his own naked chest. Why does a woman’s body say something about her confidence, while a man’s body is.. just his body?

2) Why is confidence the norm? One can be quite comfortable in one’s shyness. Why would it be bad to be humble and awkward? Why would it be anyone else’s business what kind of clothing a person (in this case: a woman) is comfortable with?

I cry a lot because I miss people. They die and I can’t stop them. They leave me and I love them more.

It was wonderful to sit with her head on my shoulder for hours and feel as I always have, even now, closer to her than to any other human being. And I wouldn’t mind a bit if in a few years you and I could snuggle up together under a stone in some old graveyard here. That is really a happy thought and not melancholy at all.
